Let’s face it, sometimes life downright sucks. There’s no use denying it, so here are some things that can help give your mind a little rest from whatever is causing it pain.

  1. Have a good cry.

Whatever it is you’re experiencing, give yourself permission to FEEL it completely. There are many avenues to emotional pain (loss, grief, betrayal, addiction, to name a few), allow your body to process this pain in whatever way comes up naturally. Crying can actually help release some of the stress and tension on your body, check out this article for more information on how having a good cry can be good for your health!

  2. Let yourself heal.

Once you’ve accepted your emotional wounds and begin healing them as you would physical wounds (with meticulous care and patience) is when you will heal and grow. Start with recognizing what you need in order to heal, this may come in the form of a support group, therapist, a more balanced work life, church, naps, time with friends, time alone, time in nature, or whatever it is, do more of it. Accept that you may need to take a break from some commitments and prioritize your healing before giving to other people. You wouldn’t heal a broken foot by walking on it, and pretending like it wasn’t broken and you can’t heal an emotional wound without a few adjustments to your life either.
